If you are looking for a fun, new way to raise money for your group, why not do something that’s good for the earth, good for people, and will last a life-time?
We’ll provide the sugar maple seedlings for free if you provide the labor. Just find a new housing development that has very few trees, then go door-to-door and offer to plant in their yard for a small donation.
Hints:
- Go the day AFTER a nice rain when the ground is soft and it will only take a few minutes to dig the hole and plant the tree.
- Be sure to mulch to keep the roots moist and cool.
- Free wood chips are often available from Du Page County Forest Preserve.
- For best results, water the tree thoroughly after you plant it and insert a small stake near it so the homeowner won’t mow over it.
